The gauge (or the index) are checked by check of their resistance and connection with weight (if this connection is provided by the electric scheme, subsection 13.2.4 see).

To establish malfunction of the gauge, the index or conducting it is possible on the basis of following simple checks. If the arrow of the index of temperature is near to an initial mark of a scale in the heated-up engine disconnect a socket from the gauge and at the included ignition connect a crosspiece a conclusion of a socket to weight. If thus the arrow of the index has moved to an extreme part of a scale the gauge replace. Otherwise are faulty either conducting or the index. If temperature indications are obviously overestimated on the cold engine, and at a detachment of a socket from the gauge of the marksman comes back in initial position the gauge is faulty. If arrow position does not vary, in a wire or in the index there is a short circuit on weight.

On engine M40 the temperature gauge will screw in the left part of a head of cylinders. On other engines the gauge as a rule will screw in the thermostat case. On a part of cars 2 gauges, only one of which are provided works with the index.

At gauge replacement some loss of a liquid is possible. The new gauge wrap on hermetic.
