As it has already been told, distributive (or interaxal) the differential is necessary for an equilibration of forces between forward and back bridges. (Differentials of forward and back bridges work irrespective of it).

By the way, name Torsen occurs from firm Gleason, the manufacturer of transmissions where this differential has been invented. This name – reduction from English words Torque Sensing that means approximately «a feeling twisting moment». Thereby it is as though the action description:

Work principle

The Torsen-differential is based on a principle of a worm gear and uses its main principles:

• The worm gear can be calculated in such a manner that it will possess high or low factor of blocking.
• The size of factor of blocking depends on an angle of lead of a worm – that is from that, how many is located on a worm of flat or abrupt coils.
• Example of a flat worm with high factor of blocking is the automobile jack in which the starting handle, influencing a worm though raises the car, but the car, despite the weight, never can untwist the starting handle and release a jack.
