Seasonal oil

These classes begin at engine oils with liquid winter (winter) oils SAE 5W, 10W, 15W through intermediate step SAE 20W/20 to viscous summer oils SAE 30, 40 and 50.

In this case oil can "elastically adapt to temperatures and cover many classes of viscosity. Oil SAE 15W-50 corresponds at temperature in–15°C to a viscosity class 15W, and at 100°C – to a class 50.

At all-weather oils on the basis of mineral oils that fact is problematic that the chains of molecules improving viscosity, decay in due course and in this case oil becomes not such steady against temperature influences. For this reason Audi does not allow to apply in the cars all-weather oils of classes SAE 10W-30 and 10W-40 in a warm season.
