The control of level ATF in an automatic transmission

Constant check

The automatic transmission is filled by a synthetic liquid under name Automatic Transmission Fluid. This liquid serves as lubricant means, and also for management of hydraulic pressure in a transmission. That it met the put requirements, ATF should be checked up and have a designation «Dexron» (with the subsequent control number). Incorrectly chosen liquid can cause damage of a transmission not subject to repair!

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. At check ATF should have working temperature that approximately corresponds to a trip on 10 km. The quantity of a liquid changes depending on temperature. In a cold condition controllable level is too low, after a long trip too high.
  2. To put the car on a lay brake, to establish the transmission handle on position «Р», to leave the engine to idle.
  3. To extend probe ATF, located on a movement direction at the left behind from the engine. He can be learnt on the handle. To wipe it follows only absolutely dry and not leaving fibres a rag.
  4. To insert probe and once again to extend it. The quantity of a liquid between the top and bottom mark makes 0,23 l.
  5. Between both marks it should be visible transparent ATF. Marks on a tip probeа are intended only for gauging at filling in case of replacement ATF.
  6. Earlier ATF has been always transparent and painted in light-red colour. Now the liquid which while in service can be painted in black-brown colour is applied.
  7. If ATF on extended probeе smells as ashes, means, there is any damage of a transmission.
  8. At too low level of a liquid it is impossible to add simply ATF, it is necessary to check up a transmission on leak presence. On hermetic sealing you should entrust necessary works to a workshop.
  9. Too high level of a liquid can speak lining damages between planetary transfer and a bridge drive.
  10. To check up oil level in a bridge drive.
  11. If there there is not enough oil it is necessary to spend new hermetic sealing of both knots in a workshop and to replace ATF.
  12. If oil level is in a bridge drive at normal level in this case surplus ATF simply suck away from an automatic transmission. Too high level ATF also can lead to transmission damages.
