2.30. Check and adjustment of backlashes in valves
THE GENERAL DATA

The prevention

For adjustment of backlashes the special adaptation for отжатия pushers of valves (see more low) is required.


Disconnect the battery from weight, blow compressed air and turn out candles. Uncover heads of cylinders (subsection 3.1.4 or subsection 3.2.4 see). Establish the piston of 1st cylinder in ВМТ a compression step.

4-CYLINDER ENGINES

Check of backlashes in valves on 4-cylinder engines

On 4-cylinder engines check up backlashes of valves of 1st cylinder, final valves of 3rd cylinder and inlet valves of 2nd cylinder.

Backlash check between a cam of a cam-shaft and the valve with the help probeа

Щуп should pass under small effort.

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Measure probeом backlashes in valves. Write down those results which differ from norm.
2. Turn коленвал on 360 and combine labels. Check up backlashes of other valves.

ENGINES OF 3,0 L V6

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Establish the piston of 1st cylinder in ВМТ a step of compression and measure probeом backlashes of the final valve of 2nd cylinder and the inlet valve of 6th cylinder (IN – inlet, EX – final). Write down those results which differ from norm.
2. Turn коленвал on 120 and check up backlashes of the inlet valve of 1st cylinder and the final valve of 3rd cylinder (1 – the right party, 2 – to a forward part of the engine, IN – inlet, EX – final).
3. Turning still коленвал on 120 , check up backlashes of the inlet valve of 2nd cylinder and the final valve of 4th cylinder (1 – a left-hand side, 2 – to a forward part of the engine, IN – inlet, EX – final).
4. Turning further коленвал on 120 , check up backlashes of the inlet valve of 3rd cylinder and the final valve of 5th cylinder (1 – the right party, 2 – to a forward part of the engine, IN – inlet, EX – final).
5. Turn коленвал on 120 , check up backlashes of the inlet valve of 4th cylinder and the final valve of 6th cylinder (1 – a left-hand side, 2 – to a forward part of the engine, IN – inlet, EX – final).
6. Turn коленвал on 120 , check up backlashes of the inlet valve of 5th cylinder and the final valve of 1st cylinder (IN – inlet, EX – final).

ENGINES OF 3,4 L V6

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Measure probeом backlashes in the specified valves (IN – inlet, EX – final, RH – the right party, LH – a left-hand side). Write down those results which differ from norm.

2. Turn коленвал on 240 (2/3 turns) and check up backlashes in the specified valves (IN – inlet, EX – final, RH – the right party, LH – a left-hand side). Measure backlashes in other valves. Designate final or inlet valves on which measurements were carried out.

ALL ENGINES

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. After measurement of backlashes turn коленвал so that the cam of a cam-shaft of the first adjustable valve has been turned aside from an adjusting washer.
2. Expose a groove on a pusher so that it has been turned to a candle. Establish the adaptation and wring out a pusher, having compressed handles of pincers of the adaptation. Insert the holder of the adaptation and clean pincers (it is possible to reduce handles and to fix their hook, without using the holder).
3. Compressing a pusher the holder, get adjusting washers, having hooked their screw-driver or magnetic tweezers.

The prevention

On engines V6 of a washer of 1 and 6th cylinders of 3,4 l to get more difficultly. Therefore reject the adaptation aside from a cam-shaft of inlet valves a little.


4. By a micrometer measure a thickness of the removed adjusting washer, then under the formula define a necessary thickness of a remote lining (Т – a thickness of the removed lining, And – the measured backlash, N – a demanded thickness of a new lining, V – a standard backlash): N = Т + (А-V).
5. The manufacturer in spare parts delivers adjusting washers of 17 dimensional groups with a thickness from 2,500 mm to 3,300 mm with step of 0,050 mm. Pick up a washer so that its thickness was as it is possible more close to settlement.

The prevention

With a view of economy it is possible to establish the washer approaching on a thickness which have been removed from the next valve.


6. Wring out a pusher the adaptation and establish a new washer. Check up a backlash.
7. Repeat the described procedure for other valves. Establish all removed details upside-down.
