Having established new candles after small run (about 1000 km), it is expedient to unscrew them, having marked cylinder number, and attentively to examine a condition of insulators. At correctly chosen калильном number both optimum structure of a mix and coal of an advancing of ignition the insulator will be light brown, brown or light grey. Multi-coloured adjournment on an insulator and electrodes testify to presence in fuel or engine oil of a considerable quantity of additives. There are engines various sizes of degree of compression for each of cylinders. Well and between engines of one model compression degree differs sometimes on the whole unit. At the expense of a deviation from technological processes, materials, etc. among candles of one mark the wide spacing on actual калильным to numbers also is observed. At the big difference in a condition of candles sometimes it is necessary even to establish in one engine candles with different калильными numbers. Always to have a stock on калильному to number in various service conditions, it is expedient to have two complete sets of candles and to establish in the summer "colder", and in the winter – "hot".

Lately a number of firms lets out candles with the expanded thermal field of a candle. For this purpose the central electrode becomes copper, the covering from heat resisting materials (nickel, chrome) from above is put. Sometimes and lateral electrodes become from metal with good heat conductivity and a heat resisting covering. Other original decision is manufacturing of a tiny central electrode from the platinum, not acting of an insulator. Especially "cold" candles with калильным number 300 and above for the forced engines (with турбонаддуовм, duple, etc.) are usually made with a silver electrode of small diameter and a short skirt of an insulator. Before to establish such candles, sometimes it is recommended to warm up at first the engine on "hot" candles and only then to establish "cold".

It is necessary to mean that at candle clearing in пескоструйном the device the insulator surface collapses. Better, having turned a candle, to fill in in the case solvent, gasoline or to apply special aerosol баллончик. Then a wooden stick to clear an insulator and to blow its compressed air.

1. Open a cowl. On l models 1,2 remove the air filter. On models 2,0 of l with 16 valves unscrew screws and uncover high-voltage wires.
2. Mark high-voltage wires in figures from 1 to 4 (1st cylinder is located from outside a gear belt) and remove high-voltage wires from spark plugs.
3. Clear candles, using a brush, a vacuum cleaner or a stream of compressed air that will exclude dirt hit in cylinders of the engine after вывинчивания spark plugs. Unscrew candles, using a candle key.
4. The visual control of a working part of spark plugs can show an engine condition. If a nasal part of an insulator of spark plugs pure and white, without a touch it testifies to too poor mix. It also specifies that the candle too hot, that is warmly from the central electrode is taken away slowly. If it so it is necessary to adjust structure of a fuel mix or to replace a candle.
5. If the nasal part of an insulator is covered by black touch, it means that a mix too rich. If a touch black and oily it testifies to deterioration of the engine and necessity of its check and repair. If the nasal part of an insulator is covered by light brown touch the mix structure is optimum also the engine is in a good condition.
6. The interelectrode backlash of a spark plug is of great importance, as at too big and at too small backlash the size of a spark that leads to decrease in an overall performance of the engine changes. The backlash should correspond to technical requirements always.
7. Backlash check is carried out by a wire template (drawing at the left) or probeом (drawing on the right). Backlash updating is carried out подгибанием a lateral electrode. The central electrode in no event cannot be bent, as it can lead to breakage of an insulator and a candle exit out of operation.
8. For подгибания a lateral electrode of a candle it is necessary to use the special tool.
9. Before spark plug installation in the engine check up, that the carving was pure and all threads of a carving – whole.
10. Screw in spark plugs by hand and then tighten their demanded moment.
11. For candle screwing up on some coils it is possible to use a piece of a rubber hose in which on the one hand to insert an insulator of a candle and, rotating a hose, to screw up a candle on some coils. Then it is necessary to remove a hose and to screw up a candle the demanded moment.
12. Connect to spark plugs high-voltage wires. On l models 1,2 establish the air filter. On models 2,0 of l with 16 valves establish a cover of high-voltage wires and fix its screws.
