Removal and installation of a head of cylinders

Removal

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Disconnect a negative wire from the battery.
2. Empty cooling system (address to the Head Routine maintenance).
3. Achieve combination of apertures for blocking of cranked and distributive shaft and pass in them metal cores of the corresponding diameter (Fixing cranked/distributive shaft for the purpose of prevention casual in the course of performance of procedures of service of the car see). At all do not suppose attempts проворачивания the engine after introduction of blocking cores.

Models 1.6 and 1.8 l

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Uncover heads of cylinders (Removal and installation of a cover of a head of cylinders see).
2. Remove the air sleeve connecting an air cleaner with the case of a throttle (the Power supply system - petrol models see).
3. The description of procedure of removal of a head of cylinders in gathering with the inlet pipeline and a final collector that does assemblage of more bulky in view of what it will be preliminary reasonable to remove the mentioned components (see the Head of the Power supply system and release) is more low resulted.
4. Operating according to the instructions resulted in the Head of the Power supply system and release, disconnect a reception pipe of system of release of the fulfilled gases from a final collector. At a corresponding complete set disconnect/liberate l-probe electroconducting on purpose not to admit its tension under weight of the given section of system of release.
5. On former being verified with the instructions stated in the Head of the Power supply system and release, execute following procedures:
   a) Dump pressure in the power supply system and disconnect hoses of giving and fuel return. Закупорьте the open ends of hoses/unions for the purpose of minimisation of losses of fuel and in order to avoid hit in dirt system;
   b) Disconnect a gas cable;
   c) Disconnect all other procedures stirring to performance vacuum and ventilating hoses. Liberate hoses from clamps on a final collector;
   d) Disconnect electroconducting from the throttle case;
   e) Disunite two electric sockets on each of injectors of injection and liberate electroconducting from clamps on a collector.
6. Release collars and disconnect hoses of system of cooling from a thermostat casing at the left on a head of cylinders.
7. Release a fixing clamp () and disunite an electric socket () on the gauge (ah) and the gauge-switch (ях), screwed in a casing of the thermostat depending on a complete set.
8. Turn out a bolt of fastening of a directing tube probeа measurements of level of impellent oil at the left on a head of cylinders. Take a tube from the block of cylinders.
9. Disconnect electroconducting from ВВ ignition coils. If the head understands for the purpose of major repairs carrying out, remove the coil (the ignition System - petrol models see). Thus ВВ wires should be disconnected from spark plugs, instead of from the coil and are removed in gathering from last. If on wires there are no factory marks, mark them by means of an adhesive tape, having assigned everyone number of the corresponding cylinder. At assemblage ВВ of a wire should be connected strictly in a former order in order to avoid infringement of an order of ignition.
10. Remove an arm of a support of the power unit on the right party of a head of cylinders. Release натяжитель and remove газораспределительный a belt from a camshaft cogwheel (Removal, check of a condition and installation натяжителя and cogwheels газораспределительного a belt see).

11. Operating in an order, the return shown on an illustration, in stages (on a half-turn for the approach) ослабьте ten bolts of fastening of a head of cylinders so that there was a possibility of their reversing manually. Turn out bolts and remove them together with the washers. Try to remember adjusting position of the remote plug by which the left forward bolt is equipped.

12. After a reversing of all fixture it is necessary to separate a head from a lining and the block of cylinders/kartera of the engine, having tried not to displace a sleeve of cylinders thus. In spite of the fact that in the given engines of a sleeve are planted especially densely, it is necessary to consider nevertheless probability of risk of hit of a cooling liquid in the pallet картера at inaccurate actions during head dismantle. If to avoid displacement of sleeves it is not possible, there can be an infringement of tightness of landing of the bottom sealants that will lead to development of leaks already in the near future after unit assemblage.

13. For a partition of components prepare two L-shaped cores. Fill cores in болтовые apertures of a head and start to shake accurately last forward on an axial line of the car. Do not try to develop at all a head on the block - it is planted on directing pins, and also on the acting ends of sleeves of cylinders.

14. When the layer of connecting hermetic will appear is destroyed, the head should be lifted upwards and cautiously to remove from the block (it will be reasonable to take advantage of the help of the assistant, especially if the head acts in film in gathering with the inlet pipeline and a final collector). Remove from the block a sealing lining of a head. Also take and combine in a reliable place freely planted directing pins. Do not throw out an old lining, - it can be used as a template (Preparation for installation ", subitem 4-5 see more low").
15. Try not to suppose проворачивания a cranked shaft at the removed head as it can lead to pushing out of sleeves from nests of cylinders. All operations demanding such проворачивания should be made only after reliable fixing of sleeves in the block. At absence near at hand special firm clips of a sleeve can be fixed with the help of pair bolts of suitable length and two flat washers of the big diameter.
16. If the head is subject to the further dismantling for the purpose of performance of procedures of major repairs, take from it a camshaft (Removal, check of a condition and installation of a camshaft and pushers of valves see), then address to materials has undressed Removal and engine major repairs.

L models 2.0

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Execute the procedures described in subsection "Models 1.6 and 1.8 l", subitem 1-10. Pay attention that in this case the directing tube measuring probeа is established on a wall of the inlet pipeline.

2. Operating in an order, the return shown on an illustration, in stages (on a half-turn for the approach) ослабьте ten bolts of fastening of a head of cylinders so that there was a possibility of their reversing manually.

3. Turn out bolts and remove them together with the washers. The fixture (both bolts and washers) is not subject to a reuse and should be replaced.
4. After fixture extraction remove a head from the block of cylinders (take advantage of the help of the assistant).
5. Remove from an interfaced surface of the block a sealing lining, - pay attention to two directing pins. If pins are planted in the block freely, take them and clean in a reliable place.
6. If the head is subject to the further dismantling for the purpose of performance of procedures of major repairs, take from it a camshaft (Removal, check of a condition and installation of a camshaft and pushers of valves see), then address to materials has undressed Removal and engine major repairs.

Preparation for installation

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Interfaced surfaces of a head and the block of cylinders should be absolutely pure. By means of a plastic or wooden scraper remove with all of them traces of a material of an old lining and coal adjournment. Smooth out also the bottoms of pistons. On models 1.6 and 1.8 l before to turn a cranked shaft, take care of reliable fixing of sleeves of cylinders (the subsection "Models 1.6 and 1.8 l", item 15 see). Remember that the soft aluminium alloy at casual handling can be easily damaged. On all models accept safety measures against hit of a coal dust in маслотоки and water galleries of the engine. Stick all open apertures (including болтовые) with an adhesive tape. In order to avoid hit of coal particles in free space between pistons and mirrors of cylinders fill backlashes dense greasing which before unit assemblage should be removed by means of a soft brush (then components should be wiped pure rags).
2. Check up interfaced surfaces of a head and the block of cylinders on presence of deep scratches, задиров and other mechanical damages. Insignificant defects can be removed by means of a file with a small tooth. In more serious cases replacement of the damaged component becomes unique alternative. Estimate degree неплоскостности interfaced surfaces of a head of cylinders by means of the steel ruler put on an edge and probeа лезвийного type (Removal and engine major repairs see).
3. On models 1.6 and 1.8 l check up size выступания sleeves of cylinders (Cleaning and check of a condition of the block of cylinders/kartera of the engine see).
4. Track, that the new lining of a head of cylinders on the thickness corresponded to standard requirements (Specifications see). On some models linings only one thickness that excludes probability of an error are issued. On others two types of linings can be used: a standard thickness (thicker are established on manufacturer) and hardly (+ 0.2 mm) "repair", applied after проточки heads. After проточки on an interfaced surface of a head, near to the third final port the label in the form of letter R is put. The similar label should be present and on subject installation in this case to a repair lining (near to an aperture of the third cylinder). Lining identification can be made also on apertures from its left edge (see further).
5. At correct packing of a lining on the block of cylinders in a uvula located from its left edge should appear one or several apertures are punched. At a standard lining (1.2 mm) there is only one aperture; whereas in repair (1.4 mm) them will be two or three (depending on letting out firm-manufacturer). Track, that the new lining established on the block had a correct thickness. In case of absence of confidence do not hesitate to address for the help to experts of the services-centres of company Citroyon.
6. Check up a condition of bolts of fastening of a head of cylinders, special attention having given to their carving part. Estimate degree of deterioration of bolts, make replacement of defective fixture. Wash out bolts in solvent, then carefully dry them. Measure length of each of bolts: measurement is made from the bottom surface of a head (the washer is removed) to an end face of a carving part. If the length of all bolts makes less than 176.5 mm (models 1.6 and 1.8)/122 mm (models 2.0), they can be used at unit assemblage. If the length at least one of bolts exceeds the admissible value, all bolts should be replaced in the complete set. In view of enough high loadings to which the given bolts are exposed while in service the car, composers of the present Management recommend to make their replacement each time at assemblage, without dependence from a condition.

Installation

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Carefully wipe interfaced surfaces of a head and the block of cylinders. Make sure available on the regular places from both parties of an interfaced surface of the block of two directing pins. On models 1.6 and 1.8 l remove clamps of fastening of sleeves of cylinders (the subsection "Models 1.6 and 1.8 l", item 15 see).
2. Lay on an interfaced surface of the block a new lining, having tracked, that identification apertures have appeared from its left edge.

Models 1.6 and 1.8 l

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Make sure that cranked and distributive shaft are blocked by cores of the corresponding diameter (Fixing cranked/distributive shaft for the purpose of prevention casual in the course of performance of procedures of service of the car see). By means of the assistant accurately lay a head on the block of cylinders, in the correct image having put on it directing pins.
2. Grease with high-quality refractory greasing of type Molykote G Rapid Plus a carving part and the bottom surfaces of heads of fixing bolts.
3. Accurately get fixing bolts in the apertures (do not forget about washers) and by hand tighten them. Remember that under the left forward bolt the remote plug is established also.
4. In stages in an order shown on an accompanying illustration, tighten bolts with effort of the first stage (Specifications see).

5. Operating in an order, the return shown on an illustration, completely release all bolts, then again tighten them (again in the order shown on an illustration) with effort of the second stage (Specifications see).

6. After all bolts will be tightened with effort of the second stage, hold on them definitively on a corner of thirds of stage of a tightening (Specifications see). At absence near at hand a goniometer take advantage of the template made of a cardboard, or put a measuring scale directly on a surface of a head around each of bolts.
7. Having finished procedure of a tightening of bolts, connect an electric socket to ВВ to the ignition coil. If the head understood for the purpose of major repairs carrying out, establish the coil according to the instructions resulted in section System of ignition - petrol models.
8. Throw газораспределительный with a belt a camshaft cogwheel. Fix a basic arm on an end face of a head of cylinders and strongly tighten fixing bolts. Establish an arm of the right support of the power unit, tighten fixing nuts with demanded effort. Clean a jack from under the engine.
9. Make a tension газораспределительного a belt (the Belt of drive ГРМ - the general information, removal and installation see).
10. The further assemblage is made in an order, the return to an order of dismantle taking into account following moments:
   a) Track correctness of a lining of electroconducting and reliability of fixing of its sockets;
   b) Track correctness of connection and reliability of fastening by collars of hoses of system of cooling;
   c) Track correctness of connection of all vacuum and ventilating hoses;
   d) Establish into place a cover of a head of cylinders (Removal and installation of a cover of a head of cylinders see);
   e) Connect to a final collector a reception pipe of system of release of the fulfilled gases, establish into place a casing of an air cleaner with air sleeves, make adjustment of a cable of gas (the Power supply system - petrol models see). If removed, establish to the place of the inlet pipeline and a final collector (see in the same place);
   f) In summary, fill cooling system (Weekly checks see) and connect a negative wire to the battery.

L models 2.0

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. According to the instructions resulted in subsection "Models 1.6 and 1.8 l", subitem 1-3, ignoring only instructions on an arrangement of identification apertures of a lining, establish into place a head of cylinders.

2. In stages in an order shown on an illustration, tighten bolts with effort of the first stage (Specifications see), then repeat procedure, having tightened them with effort of the second stage.

3. After all bolts will be tightened with effort of the second stage, hold on them definitively on a corner of thirds of stage of a tightening (Specifications see). At absence near at hand a goniometer take advantage of the template made of a cardboard, or put a measuring scale directly on a surface of a head around each of bolts.
4. Having finished procedure of a tightening of bolts, connect an electric socket to ВВ to the ignition coil. If the head understood for the purpose of major repairs carrying out, establish the coil according to the instructions resulted in section System of ignition - petrol models.
5. Throw газораспределительный with a belt a camshaft cogwheel (Removal, check of a condition and installation натяжителя and cogwheels газораспределительного a belt see). Make a tension газораспределительного a belt (the Belt of drive ГРМ - the general information, removal and installation see).
6. The further assemblage is made in an order, the return to an order of dismantle taking into account the moments listed in subsection "Models 1.6 and 1.8 l", item 10.
