4.4.24. Check of elements of the engine

4.4.24.1. Check of a cranked shaft
PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Check up necks of a cranked shaft on a roughness. Any appreciable roughness specifies that a cranked shaft it is necessary перешлифовать or to replace.
2. If the cranked shaft was перешлифован, check up agnails round apertures for greasing. In the presence of agnails remove their small file or шабером or carefully clear apertures and channels of a shaving.
3. Using a micrometer, measure diameter radical and шатунных necks of a cranked shaft and compare results to specifications. Measurement of necks make in several points, both on diameter, and on length of a neck that will allow to reveal ovality and конусность if they are present.
4. The second (and more exact) a method of measurement of a backlash of radical bearings consists in using a product known as Plastigage. It is a round plastic core which is compressed between the loose leaf and a neck of a cranked shaft. After removal of a cover of the radical bearing the deformed plastic core is measured by a special template which is available in complete set Plastigage. Procedure for use Plastigage the following.
5. On established in the block of cylinders loose leaves establish without greasing a cranked shaft. Necks of a cranked shaft and loose leaves should be absolutely pure and dry.
6. Cut off some slices of plastic core Plastigage (they should be slightly shorter, than width of the main bearings) and establish on each neck of a cranked shaft.
7. Establish covers with the bottom loose leaves and tighten bolts of fastening by the demanded moment. In the course of measurement of a backlash by method Plastigage do not rotate a cranked shaft.
8. Unscrew a cover of fastening of the loose leaf, remove it and to the deformed plastic core put a scale ruler. Comparing width of the deformed plastic core with control width on a scale ruler, define backlash size.
9. In end carefully clear traces of a Plastigage-material from loose leaves and a cranked shaft.
10. Check up surfaces of contact of oil consolidation on each end of a cranked shaft on deterioration and other damages. If deterioration of a neck from consolidation big, that, probably, is required replacement of a cranked shaft.
